Cost?

Annual subscription costs of £108 can be paid each school term, monthly or annually in advance. This is paid online through Online Scout Manager.

Termly: £36 subscription to be paid each school term (x3). Due Dates are 1st September, 1st January, 1st April.

Monthly: £9 subscription to be paid each month (x12). Due Dates are 1st of each month.

Annually: £108 subscription to be paid each year in advance (x1). Due Date is 1st September.

Subscriptions cover our pack costs and the annual membership fee paid to The Scout Association. The subscriptions do not cover purchase of large equipment, so we regularly organise fundraising activities. We ask all parents/carers to give us your full support with these events. Another easy way we can add to our funds is by claiming back the tax you have paid HM Revenue & Customs on your child’s subscription. This is called Gift Aid. If possible, please fill in a Gift Aid form with the name of a tax payer in your household and return with the Personal Information Form.

Uniform

The Cub uniform is a green sweatshirt with green polo shirt, navy combat style trousers. There are official uniform trousers, but these are not compulsory. Any other black or navy trousers (not jeans) are acceptable. Our group scarf is half light blue, and half grey. The uniform will be required by the time of investiture. This can be obtained from The Scout Shop in Bury St Edmunds or Scout Shop online. Please clearly name all items of uniform.

Parents rota

In order to ensure we always have sufficient adult help, we operate a weekly parent’s rota, which is sent to parents at the beginning of each term. In reality this requires parents to help only for a few evenings per year! If you wish to help out more frequently please speak to us as we always welcome extra assistance.

Investiture

This is approximately 4-6 weeks after joining. Parents are notified of the date of investiture and families are invited to attend.

Programme

The weekly programme is varied and over time covers all the requirements for the Cub Scout Challenge Badges and the Chief Scout’s Silver Award. There are many activity badges which can be completed during meetings, many of which can also be achieved at home. It is important that parents give their child full support and encouragement in all their scouting activities.

Moving on to Scouts

Shortly after reaching 10 ½ years of age, Cub Scouts transfer to the Scout Section. 6th Bury St. Edmunds St Marys Scout Troup meets on Mondays from 7.00pm to 9.00pm

Scouting for the Whole Family

Scouting is open to all and we like to include the whole family if that is what they wish. We always welcome help from any adult who wishes to help us in any way they can, but you are not obliged to become an adult helper in order for your child to join us.

Beavers: age 5 years, 9 months to 8 years

Cubs: age 8 years 10½ years
