Beaver Badges
Earning badges is an important part of being a Beaver. Although all Beavers will earn badges as part of the program they take part in each week, There is also the opportunity for Beavers to earn extra badges at home or other places away from Beavers. This is an optional extra for Beavers and is not compulsory like school homework, it should be the Beaver's choice to work on badges at home.
There are a couple of different categories of Beaver Badges.
- Challenge Awards - which must be earnt during colony meetings.
- Activity Badges - which can be earnt either at colony meetings or they can be earnt at home or other places away from colony meetings.
The Beaver Activity Badge Criteria can be found on The Scouts Website.
There is also an optional, handy pocket sized book that has lots of information about the Beaver Badges produced by The Scout Association called BADGES AND AWARDS AND HOW TO EARN THEM which is available from The Scout Store website.
Once you have decided which badge you would like to do, please take photos and/or videos of you Beaver
doing the activity as evidence.
If your chosen badge has questions to answer, then please get your
Beaver to answer them either in writing or in a video (alternatively questions can be answered in person
at Beaver sessions). Questions should be answered in your Beaver's own words.
Please then email any
photos, videos, written answers or any other evidence you may have to beaver.badges@6thbsescouts.org.uk. Please don't
forget to tell us which badge you are trying to earn.
Once your Beaver's Badge has been approved, it will be awarded to your Beaver at the earliest opportunity. This will depend on where we are, what we are doing and if we have the badge in stock or if we have to order it.
Once your Beaver has been awarded their badge it should be sewn onto the Beaver's Uniform. Below is a diagram which shows where all the badges should go on the Uniform.
Souvenir and Occasional Badges
Sometimes we give Beavers Souvenir Badges for Camps, Sleepovers and Events. These are usually bigger than the normal badges that we give out and will usually identify the event on them. These Badges should not be sewn onto the Uniform and should instead be sewn onto a Camp Blanket if you have one or kept in a memory box.
There is an exception to this rule and that is for Occasional Badges, These usually celebrate a significant Local or National Event such as an Anniversary, Jubilee, Coronation etc and have been authorised by the Scout Association or the County Lead Volunteer to be worn on the Uniform for a specific period of time, we will usually tell you when a badge has Occasional Badge status. At the end of the period the badge has been authorised for wearing on the Uniform, the badge will need to be removed from the Uniform and put with your Souvenir Badges.
We hope this page answers all your questions about Badges. If you have any further questions, please email us at beaver.badges@6thbsescouts.org.uk
